Private Tours of Nicaragua
For the foreseeable future, all Beyond The Ordinary’s Nicaragua tours will operate on a private basis, each holiday tailored to clients’ individual requirements.
All the arrangements for our Nicaragua tours – the accommodation, transport and guides – are made through a single, local partner, thereby ensuring seamless arrangements from start to finish.
In terms of how such tours are put together, clients essentially have two choices (although there can sometimes be a degree of crossover).
Car & Driver / Guide
For clients who so wish, we can arrange comprehensive tours of Nicaragua with a private, English speaking guide throughout.
With such itineraries, as the guide will also need accommodation, meal allowances etc, this is the most expensive option for touring Nicaragua.
Depending on the specific itinerary and the logistics involved, the guide might do all the driving, ie a Driver / Guide, or there may be a Driver and a Guide. Sometimes there may be a combination.
Transfers & Guides
The better value option is for us to create an itinerary with private transfers throughout (these will be different drivers each time) and local guides and tours arranged as and when necessary.
That way, clients aren’t faced with paying for a guide’s accommodation costs for the duration of their holiday or paying for a guide on a ‘day off’, ie if clients want a day exploring Granada on their own.
Please Note: Even with this, second option, there may be certain itineraries where the only option is to have a Driver / Guide with you for a number of days, ie in more remote parts of Nicaragua.
Tour Overview
While all our Nicaragua tours are entirely tailor made, they all begin with clients flying in to its capital city, Managua.
As the majority of clients will arrive late at night, the first night of any tour will generally be spent in a hotel close to the airport.
For most visitors to Nicaragua, especially those with limited time, the good news is that the country’s key highlights are all located relatively close together.
So, from Managua, clients can visit the likes of Leon (pictured below), Leon Viejo, Masaya, Granada, Apoyo Lagoon & Ometepe Island with ease.
Including the likes of Esteli & Matagalpa in the north adds a bit more travel time to any tour but nothing too onerous. It is only when one travels to San Carlos & Rio San Juan in the south east that journeys become slightly more taxing.
Beach Extensions
Some clients are only interested in spending their time in Nicaragua exploring its colonial towns and beautiful countryside.
For those clients who wish to incorporate time at the beach into their tour, there is the option of either the Pacific Coast or the Corn Islands in the Caribbean.
Staying on the Pacific Coast has the advantage of not requiring domestic flights, with even San Juan del Sur back to Managua airport taking no more than 3 hours by road.
Including the Corn Islands (pictured below) at the end of your Nicaragua tour requires domestic flights from Managua and, as same day domestic / international flight connections are too risky, will involve a night back in the capital before returning home.
As an alternative to the beach, at least of the ocean variety, clients can easily end their tour with time relaxing on Ometepe Island, the Isletas de Granada or Apoyo Lagoon.
Itineraries
In the Itineraries section of this website, you will find a selection of sample, suggested Nicaragua tours although they really are no more than ideas; there are countless variations and alternatives that we can suggest.
Please note that these tours are all based on the aforementioned Transfers & Guides format.
