Arenas Beach Hotel
The Corn Islands, Nicaragua
Beach
Located no more than 5 minutes’ drive from the island’s tiny airport, the Arenas Beach Hotel is the standout option on Big Corn Island.
Being situated on Big Corn’s sheltered, west coast, the sea at Arenas Beach Hotel is much calmer than the east coast and is ideal for swimming.
Even without these calmer conditions, the beach at Arenas Beach, which is after all the main reason to stay here, is picture postcard beautiful -a gently curving bay, with the very finest, white sand beach and, for now at least, just one other hotel, two hundred metres away. For those travelling with young children, or simply uncomfortable with deep water, the water is also both shallow and clear.
On the beach, which is raked every morning, there are plenty of options for lounging, whether you prefer to lie out in the sun on a lounger or to sit reading a book in a shady cabana.

Also located on the beach are the hotel’s famous ‘boat bar’ and restaurant where breakfast is served in the morning.
The actual hotel building, together with all the accommodation, is set back around 25 metres from the beach, with a very narrow, quiet road in-between.
The attractive, main hotel building comprises the reception area and lounge with, on the second floor, a number of rooms.
To the side of this building, surrounding attractive gardens, are a number of bungalows, each of which houses four bedrooms.
While, at first glance, the bungalows might seem to offer the best option for accommodation (especially the rooms facing the gardens with a terrace and hammock), our recommendation would be to stay in the main building.
Rooms in the main building are far more spacious and feature a/c, tv and safe but, perhaps oddly for a beach hotel, no fridge. They do however have generous balconies with seating.
