Pacaya Lodge
Apoyo Lagoon, Nicaragua
Tourist
Perched high on the rim of the volcano, with spectacular views over Apoyo Lagoon, Pacaya Lodge is currently the most luxurious hotel in the area.
Despite its luxury credentials, the aims of the hotel are very much more down to earth, having been set up in conjunction with Opportunity International Nicaragua.
Through this partnership, Pacaya Lodge provides a broad based training in the hospitality industry for local students as well as work experience at the hotel. Many of the graduates then go on to work at other hotels and tourism related businesses across the region.
In addition to serving the local community, the hotel has been built to be as ecologically sensitive to its surroundings as possible. Constructed from local wood and landscaped with native plants, most of the hotel’s energy comes from solar power.
In addition to enjoying the spectacular views and feeling good about your stay, there are a number of other reasons to enjoy your stay at the hotel.

If you simply wish to relax, the split-level infinity pool enjoys the same, aforementioned views while a variety of treatments are available at the small Spa.
For something a bit more active, there are a number of trails that guests can hike along, with a wide variety of birdlife and even monkeys often your only company. If you fancy a swim within the lagoon itself, the hotel can also arrange access to one of the beach clubs that line its shoreline.
The covered, yet open air, Guardabarranco Restaurant is located in the main building, with views out over Apoyo Lagoon and offers a variety of both international and local dishes. Where possible, the ingredients are organic and sourced locally.
In total there are just 26, contemporary rooms, split between rooms on the top floor of the main lodge and 2-story casitas to either side. In keeping with the ethos of the hotel, and wherever possible, all the art, décor and furniture found in the rooms has been created by local craftspeople.
All rooms feature private bathrooms, a/c, safe and private balconies. The King Rooms and Pacaya Suites also have hammocks on the balconies for guests to relax in.
While visitors from Granada will often visit Apoyo Lagoon for the day, it is equally feasible for clients to stay at Pacaya Lodge and use it as a base from which to explore not just Granada but also Masaya, the Pueblos Blancos and Mombacho Volcano.
