Hotel Real La Merced

In the 1930s, the house was acquired by an Italian family, the Zampieri’s, who added its iconic marble staircase and swimming pool, the latter being the first in Granada.

Later years saw the building lay empty and largely abandoned for some 30 years until it was saved by its current owners and converted into a hotel.

Almost perfectly square in shape, the Hotel Real La Merced is built around its large, central courtyard which is dominated by the surprisingly large swimming pool.

Surrounding the pool, and situated on both the ground and first floor, are the hotel’s 18 rooms. All rooms feature private bathrooms with hair dryers, a/c, tv, safe, mini-fridge and wifi.

These can be divided into Standard, Superior and Junior Suite, with even the Standard rooms larger than average in Granada. It is worth upgrading to the Junior Suites not just for the extra space but for the small balconies with their views over the surrounding streets and even La Merced Church.

Breakfast is included in the price and is served in the hotel’s Café La Merced, located on the ground floor and facing towards the church.

With its convenient, central location, guests are within easy walking distance of all Granada’s major sites of interest as well as a wide selection of bars and restaurants.
