Hotel Plaza Colon
Granada, Nicaragua
Heritage
Perhaps the most established hotel in Granada, the Hotel Plaza Colon is also its most centrally located, situated directly overlooking the Parque Central.
Dating back to the 19th century, and sensitively converted into a beautiful, colonial-era style hotel, the Plaza Colon has two, lovely open-air courtyards, the larger one housing a good sized swimming pool with plenty of seating / lounging options.
Due to the constraints of the original building, the hotel doesn’t have its own restaurant. Instead, breakfast, which is served on the terrace next to the pool, is provided by the café / restaurant that adjoins the hotel. Snacks are also available from the same café throughout the day.

With its excellent location, and a wealth of nearby dining options, most guests are happy to enjoy breakfast at the hotel and then head out exploring for lunch and dinner.
The 28 rooms at the Plaza Colon are all large and furnished in a traditional, colonial style with lots of dark, wooden furniture. Thankfully, the size of the rooms, light paintwork and clever use of lighting means that the rooms themselves still manage to feel relatively light and airy.
The majority of the rooms are located on two floors around both courtyards. Some of these rooms have internal balconies while, if you want both plenty of outside space and a great view, it is worth considering upgrading to the 6 Junior Suites located on the second floor that feature balconies facing directly onto Parque Central.
Rooms come with a choice of either one king or two queen beds, spacious bathrooms with good quality products, a/c, tv, safe and wifi.
The hotel Plaza Colon is also at the forefront of promoting sustainable practices in Granada and was the first hotel in the region to be certified by the Rainforest Alliance.
