Originally, as the name suggests, Rancho Santana was indeed a working farm. Unlike most farms, it just happened to be located on a long stretch of Nicaragua’s Pacific coastline, this particular stretch now referred to as the Emerald Coast.

Having been bought out by American investors who saw the potential for the estate, Rancho Santana is now both a luxurious resort and residential property.

The hotel part of the estate, a modern, colonial style building known as the Inn, houses just 17 rooms – yes, this 2,700 acre estate features just 17 hotel rooms – as well as the main restaurant, café, shop, swimming pool and guest services.

Even though there are just 17 rooms – all luxuriously appointed – there are 5 categories to choose from: Twin & Double Guestrooms, Pied-a-terre Suite, Pacific Suite & Family Suite. All room categories feature outside terraces with ocean views.

Within the Inn, guests have access to El Café where the included breakfast is served between 7 & 11. It remains open until 3pm serving both coffee and light snacks / meals.

Also within the main building is La Finca y El Mar, Rancho Santana’s signature fine dining restaurant which is open for lunch and dinner.

Down at Playa Rosada, one of the resort’s 5 beaches, is La Boquita, a casual eatery that specializes in wood-fired pizzas while, at Playa Los Perros, La Taqueria is another casual, lunch time eatery that specializes in tacos and ceviche, ideal beach side cuisine.

As already mentioned, Rancho Santana features no less than 5 beaches – how many beach resorts have you been to that can make a similar claim?

Playa Santana is the nearest to the Inn and is probably the least attractive of the 5 beaches. Playa Rosada is the next nearest and is named after its pink sand. At low tide, it is possible to walk along the rocks back to the Inn.

Next up is beautiful Playa Escondida which is ideal for simply relaxing in solitude with a good book.

Beyond that is Playa Duna, the most dramatic of the beaches and one that requires a bit of clambering to access, all part of the adventure.

Last up is Playa Los Perros, the best of the 5 beaches for swimming and, because of that, also home to the aforementioned La Taqueria restaurant.

In addition to its beautiful, setting and stunning beaches, perhaps the greatest draw of any stay at Rancho Santana is its program of guest Experiences.

It would too time consuming to fully detail all the Experiences available so here is just a summary of what is available: Surfing, Yoga, Mountain Biking, Horseback Riding, Paddle Boarding, Sandboarding, Birdwatching, Hiking, Scouting for Monkeys, Turtle Hatching……you get the picture.
