The best hotels in Nicaragua

  • Nicaragua Hotels Accommodation

Atmospheric colonial hotels, eco lodges and idyllic beach resorts.

As a developing country with a relatively small tourist market, accommodation options in Nicaragua are best described as mixed.

Happily, unless you truly venture off the beaten track, you will find comfortable, frequently atmospheric accommodation right across the country, while the key tourist destinations are home to a small selection of luxury hotels.

Perhaps the most notable aspect of accommodation in Nicaragua is the relative absence of large, international chains. If you prefer small, independent hotels, you will very much feel at home in Nicaragua.

The only place where one will come across chain hotels in Nicaragua is in the country’s capital city, Managua. Even there, Los Robles hotel offers a characterful alternative and besides, most visitors to Nicaragua simply pass through its capital on arrival & departure.

The colonial cities of Granada & Leon are two of Nicaragua’s biggest visitor-draws and both are home to characterful, good value, colonial-era hotels.

El Convento Hotel in Leon is perhaps the most atmospheric hotel in Nicaragua while Granada has many more options to choose from including, in Tribal Hotel, perhaps its only real design hotel.

For those looking to enjoy Nicaragua’s beautiful countryside, there are plenty of interesting hotel options across the country.

Within easy reach of Granada are both the Isletas de Granada and Apoyo Lagoon, both with good quality accommodation. Ometepe Island is rather more limited when it comes to the quality of its accommodation but really shouldn’t be missed.

Those clients looking to tag on a few days at the beach at the end of their holiday are also spoiled for choice with options on both the Pacific Coast and the Corn Islands in the Caribbean.

If you want your beach experience to include a tropical island with fine, white sand and palm trees then look no further than the Corn Islands and, if the budget allows, the wonderful Yemaya Reefs.

Alternatively, if you prefer something on an altogether bigger scale, with sweeping bays, steep cliffs and the option to surf the waves, you’ll want to be heading to Nicaragua’s Pacific coast and, again if the budget allows, Morgan’s Rock.
