Hotel Posada San Juan
Valladolid, Mexico
Heritage
Located within easy walking distance of Valladolid’s main square, the Hotel Posada San Juan is a delightful little hotel, full of local character and easy-going charm.
The original building dates back to the 19th century although it was only converted into a hotel in this century. Adjacent to this, the original part of the hotel, is another colonial-era building that was added to the hotel several years later.
At the heart of the Posada San Juan is a beautiful, tree filled garden and spacious pool. Surrounding this garden is the main property with its wide, open air corridors which only extend over two floors.
Unlike most hotels in the Yucatan, breakfast is included in the price, as is tea and coffee throughout the day. The hotel’s La Esquina Bistro serves local, seasonal dishes while, for foodies, cooking classes can also be arranged by advance booking.
There are just 16 rooms at Posada San Juan, all simply but tastefully furnished in a contemporary Yucatan style. Best of all, rooms all come with their own cotton hammocks.
Within these 16 rooms there is a straight choice between Standard (Classic) rooms or the Superior rooms. As the supplement is very modest, we recommend upgrading to a Superior room although the Standard rooms are more than fine.
On a final note, the Posada San Juan even owns its own cenote, Chenxunan, available for private hire exclusively by hotel guests and generally combined with the Mayan site at Ek Balam.
