A guide to accommodation options in Uxmal
Where to stay in Uxmal
There are three hotels within walking distance of the Mayan ruins at Uxmal and staying at any of them allows visitors to enjoy the ruins at their leisure, outside of the hottest parts of the day and to avoid the main tour groups.
Our favourite hotel is the Hacienda Uxmal, located just a short stroll away. Although only a faux hacienda, the hotel is an attractive, comfortable spot from which to enjoy the ruins. Closest to the actual ruins, and partly disturbed by traffic as a result, is the most expensive option, The Lodge.

The final hotel, and more of a budget option are the Villas Arqueologicas, part of a chain of identical hotels also found at both Chichen Itza and Coba.
Alternatively, Uxmal can easily be visited on a day trip from Merida or any of the haciendas that dot the surrounding region as well as from Hotel Nueva Altia, set amongst lush greenery just south of nearby Santa Elena.
