Piedra Escondida
Tulum, Mexico
Small Beach
Piedra Escondida is a laid back, comfortable hotel with, thanks to the rocky outcrops either side of its beach, a much more secluded feel than most other beach hotels in Tulum.
Charming, small hotel with a hideaway beach location.
This is not a luxury hotel and nor does it offer lots of facilities for a rainy day. However, as the vast majority of our clients are looking for a few days R&R after exploring the region, it is ideal for anyone looking to simply flop out with a good book.
Just about the hotel’s only ‘facility’, the Molcajete restaurant is located in the central palapa and enjoys spectacular views of the sea as well as a beachfront terrace from where guests can enjoy offer à la carte breakfast, lunch and dinner service. Breakfast is included in the price.
Cuisine leans towards Italian – Mexican fusion, with plenty of fresh seafood on offer. The restaurant is open 365 days a year and is also open to non-guests.
In terms of accommodation, Piedra Escondida features just 9 rooms, split into 3 categories. The 4 Category A rooms are located on the second level and feature a King Size bed. The 4 Category B rooms are located on the first level and offer two Queen Size beds; these rooms can accommodate up to 4 people, making them the ideal choice for families. Finally, the single Category C room is the largest room in the hotel and, located above the restaurant, features both a King Size bed and a Queen size bed.
Rooms are simply but tastefully decorated and furnished with a nod to Mexican folk art. All rooms feature a/c, ensuite bathrooms, mosquito nets, safe, daily maid service, balcony & (patchy) free wifi. Please note that rooms do not come with TVs, phones or coffee making facilities.
While most guests are simply content to flop out by the beach, for those looking to explore still further, Piedra Escondida usually has bikes available for hire and can also arrange visits to the nearby Mayan ruins and as well as the Sian Ka’an Biosphere.
