Occupying almost a thousand feet of prime beachfront, not to mention extensive, manicured gardens, Mahekal Beach Resort is a throwback to a time when Playa del Carmen really was little more than an overgrown fishing village.
Add to that the fact that the majority of the hotel’s buildings consist of Mayan influenced, thatched bungalows and Mahekal Beach Resort is pretty much a tick list of what the ideal beach hotel should look like.
With Playa del Carmen being home to hundreds of shops, bars, restaurants, clubs and associated tourism-related services, guests really are spoiled for choice although, if they don’t wish to leave the sanctuary of the hotel, the Mahekal Beach Resort also boasts plenty of its own facilities including a choice of bars and restaurants, no less than four pools, spa and fitness centre, dive school and shop.
The hotel has 196 rooms, divided into a number of categories including garden and ocean view. All rooms are spacious and stylish but please note that none have TVs.
