Hotel Tucan Siho Playa
Campeche, Mexico
Beach
While Campeche could never be described as a beach destination, if you’re in the area and fancy dipping your toes in the sea, the Hotel Tucan Siho Playa isn’t a bad place to spend a few days.
Located a good thirty minutes’ drive south of Campeche city, the Tucan Siho Playa occupies a small stretch of rocky coastline overlooking the Gulf of Mexico, with just a relatively small beach at one end of the hotel to boast of; long, romantic walks along the beach are not an option.
The hotel itself is something of a throwback to the 1970s and not in any hip, knowing way. That said, it’s clean, comfortable, generally peaceful (it gets much busier with locals at the weekend) and is far better value than any beach-front hotel on the Yucatan Peninsula’s fabled east coast.
The large restaurant at the heart of the hotel is nothing fancy but good value while the large pool is similarly functional but enjoys superb ocean views.
There are 40 rooms, all with fantastic ocean-facing views and either a terrace or balcony. Rooms come with a choice of standard or superior rooms but décor throughout is slightly uninspiring.
