Widely viewed as one of the most exciting cities in the world, a Mexico City stopover is an enticing extra option for anyone contemplating a holiday to the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, Guatemala or even Cuba.
Frankly, one could spend a week in Mexico City and not run of things to see, do, eat and drink. As a bare minimum, we would recommend at least 3 nights in the capital although 4 nights would better allow one to catch a breath.
Getting to Mexico City certainly isn’t a problem with both British Airways & Aeromexico flying direct, non-stop from Heathrow. British Airways tend to depart London in the morning, arriving later the same day, while Aeromexico traditionally depart Heathrow late at night, arriving into Mexico City very early the following morning. There are also numerous indirect flight options.
Aeromexico have the advantage of feeder flights from Mexico City to Havana, Guatemala City & Cancun (allowing for same day, connecting flights on the way back) while British Airways also operate daily to Cancun in the Yucatan Peninsula (but from Gatwick), allowing clients to enjoy a stopover in Mexico City on the way out without the need to have to double back on yourself.
Mexico City’s main airport, Benito Juarez International, is very centrally located, just a 30 minute drive from the city’s Historico Central, the atmospheric, colonial heart of the city and home to numerous cultural attractions as well as a good range of accommodation, bars and restaurants.
For those clients who are happy to do their own thing and who don’t want their Mexico City stopover to be too rushed, we are happy to book accommodation and airport transfers and then leave clients to potter about the Historico Central on their own.
Alternatively, for those clients who would prefer their stopover in Mexico City to include as much as possible, we can pre-book all manner of tours & excursions, be it a simple walking tour of the Historico Central or trips beyond the city centre, such as to the great Aztec city of Teotihuacan, the canals of Xochimilco or Frida Kahlo’s old home, now a museum, at Coyoacan.
