Zapata & Bay Of Pigs Casas
Zapata & Bay of Pigs, Cuba
Homestay
As one of the least populated regions of Cuba, casa particulars are especially thin on the ground in the Zapata Peninsula & Bay of Pigs area.
The few casas that do exist tend to be clustered together in Playa Larga, at the point where the road from the main autopista hits the Bay of Pigs and turns east along the coast.
Playa Larga itself is an old-fashioned, slightly ramshackle village that used to depend on fishing but which now doubles as a base for inquisitive travellers as well as keen bird-watchers.
The standard of casa particular in the area is uniformly basic throughout and having one’s own transport is pretty much a necessity as no bus routes pass through the area and taxis are almost non-existent.
Featured casas include Casa Ivett y Ronel, Casa Sol y Caribe, Costa Azul, Hostal Nueva Vida (aka Hostal Mayito) & Villa Rosita.
