Hotel Casa Granda
Santiago De Cuba, Cuba
Heritage
Santiago de Cuba’s iconic city centre hotel, the Hotel Casa Granda occupies a corner of beautiful Parque Cespedes and is a wonderfully atmospheric and convenient base from which to explore the city.
Historic hotel right in the heart of the city
Opened just before the outbreak of the Great War, the Casa Granda is a gleaming, white edifice which, with its neat shutters and colourful awnings, would not look out of place on the Cote D’Azur.
The broad, open-air terrace bar on the hotel’s first floor is one of the best places in Cuba to people-watch while, at the other end of the spectrum, the rooftop terrace offers stunning views of the city and both the nearby Sierra Maestre and Caribbean.
As with the Sevilla Hotel in Havana, the Casa Granda featured heavily in Graham Greene’s ‘Our Man in Havana’ and, despite the book having been written in the 1950s, very little has obviously changed at either the hotel or its immediate surroundings.
Having had investment in its rooms and public areas, standards at the hotel have improved markedly of late, making this a popular choice for visitors to Santiago de Cuba.
