Hotel Ordono
Guardalavaca, Cuba
Heritage
Located in the coastal town of Gibara, the Hotel Ordono is the best hotel in town and a great base from which to explore this little visited Cuban gem.
The building itself dates back to 1927 and, fun fact, is still the tallest building in Gibara. With its warm, peachy exterior paintwork, white shutters, stained glass features and ornate balconies, the Hotel Ordono is one of the most attractive hotels in eastern Cuba.
While relatively few independent travellers make it to Gibara, the town is located no more than an hour’s drive from Holguin airport and is often featured on group tours, such as our very own 14 night Cuba group tour.
In total, the Hotel Ordono features some 27 comfortable rooms, including three junior suites and a spacious main suite. All rooms feature ensuite bathrooms, a/c, in-room safe and mini-fridge. Many rooms also feature small balconies from which guests can enjoy the comings and goings of this sleepy town.
While there are a spattering of paladars (private restaurants) in Gibara, the hotel also boasts an elegant restaurant. Clients looking to relax during their stay will undoubtedly be drawn to the rooftop terrace which features a number of deck chairs.
