Hotel Jagua by Melia
Cienfuegos, Cuba
Tourist
Astonishing as it may seem, for many years there was just the single hotel in Cienfuegos, the Hotel Jagua.
Located in the Punta Gorda neighbourhood, and enjoying beautiful views out across Cienfuegos Bay, the Jagua is a testament to the tastes and tourist ideals of the 1950’s, a large, tower block of a hotel that made absolutely no attempt to blend in with its low-key surroundings.
Fortunately, staying at the hotel is generally more rewarding than having to view it from the outside, especially since (as with all the other hotels in Cienfuegos) it came under the general management of Spanish hotel group, Melia.
The last couple of years have seen fairly extensive improvements to the hotel, both in terms of the public areas and the rooms, as well as a general improvement in standards.

The main draw of the hotel is undoubtedly its location, with the pool area directly overlooking Cienfuegos Bay.
In addition to its own, in-house bar and restaurant, guests can also the bars, restaurants and facilities of its nearby sister properties as well as the neighbouring Palacio de Valle.
The 149 rooms are clean, crisp and comfortable with the Junior Suites on the upper floors enjoying the best views of all.
