One can't really get any more central than the hotel Camino de Hierro which is located on Plaza de El Gallo, right in the heart of Camaguey.
Somewhat surprisingly given its central location, little is known about the origins of the hotel although it is at least two hundred years old.
With only two floors, a wrap-around balcony and an open air, internal courtyard, this typical colonial building is one of the most charming hotels in Camaguey and certainly the best for people watching.
Being such a small hotel, facilities at the Camino de Hierra are limited but it does have its own bar and a large, airy restaurant with views over the Plaza.
The 10 rooms are all located on the second floor and are spacious as well as being tastefully decorated in the colonial style.
Most rooms have views over the street or Plaza which is great for people watching although it does mean that noise can sometimes be an issue.
